This journey began in Jericó, a small town tucked in the Colombian Andes, where my roots run deep and coffee is part of everyday life.

Mi nombre es Juan Fernando, founder of El Carriel Colombian Coffee Co. As a first-generation Colombian, this brand is more than just coffee, it’s a way to honor my heritage, support small-scale coffee farmers, and share the authentic taste of Colombian coffee culture with the world. As a proud Latino and LGBTQ+ business owner, I started El Carriel Coffee to create something meaningful, coffee with purpose, connection, and heart.

With family still farming and living in Jericó, Antioquia, I’ve witnessed firsthand the dedication and tradition behind every bean. For us, coffee isn’t just a drink, it’s a daily ritual, a symbol of community, and a story passed down through generations.

Named after the carriel, a traditional Colombian leather satchel carried by farmers and coffee workers, El Carriel Coffee represents craftsmanship, resilience, and culture. Each bag is sustainably sourced from farms in Antioquia and carefully roasted in small batches to preserve quality and integrity. We partner with independent growers who support ethical practices and youth development, helping continue Colombia’s long-standing coffee legacy.

All of our coffee is sold as whole beans to preserve freshness and flavor, but if you prefer it ground, you’ll see an option to select your preferred grind size at checkout for a small additional cost. We’re happy to grind it to fit your brewing style, just let us know!
